The grieving therapist begins to tell his clients exactly what he thinks
Despite his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes in people’s lives, including his own. When asked by Bill Lawrence how they got Harrison Ford to be on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted “a Harrison Ford type.” and intended to cast people who looked like Ford.
Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and sold him the role
Segel told Goldstein that they should at least introduce him to Ford, thinking he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been offered the project, sparking interest from other notable actors. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was elated nonetheless..

I watched the first two episodes and I think they’re engaging. One reason is that I found there to be something real about the therapist who needs therapy and is willing to go to his patients to solve their problems unexpectedly.
The show isn’t for everyone
I also respect the way it’s presented – he’s not doing what other therapists are supposed to do, and that’s pretty clear. He’s not in the kind of stupid situations that other shows like Loot have, but he’s still early in the series and I’ll keep watching him.
That said, I like the depth of the characters, who don’t seem like caricatures; they’re people I’m interested in getting to know
